Step-By-Step Guide on Washing a Snuffle Ball

As a dog parent, you want to make sure that your furry friend is always happy and healthy, and that includes keeping their toys clean. Enter the Snuffle Ball - a popular toy among dogs that can provide hours of entertainment. But how do you go about washing a Snuffle Ball? It's simpler than you may think!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Cleaning can be a chore that we tend to put off, but having everything you need ready and in arms reach can make the task so much easier. For this project, you will need:

  1. Mild detergent or pet-safe soap.

  2. Warm water.

  3. Towel.

Step 2: Shake Out the Snuffle Ball

Begin by shaking out the Snuffle Ball to remove any old food particles or other debris. (Trust us, these balls can pick up a lot of dirt from just rolling around on the floor!)

Step 3: Rinse the Snuffle Ball in Warm Water

Hold the ball under a tap or in a basin of water to allow water to flow through the fabric. This will help dislodge any additional particles or debris still trapped between the strands.

Step 4: Prepare Soapy Water

Fill up your sink, bathtub, or other basin, with warm. Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of mild detergent or a pet-safe soap. Mix well to create a soapy solution.

Step 5: Soak and Agitate

Place the Snuffle Ball into the soapy solution. Gently agitate it to ensure the soap permeates all the fabric and crevices. Allow it to soak for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 6: Rinse Thoroughly

After washing, rinse the Snuffle Ball under clean running water until all soap residue is removed. Make sure you rinse well, as any leftover soap could irritate your pet's nose or mouth.

Step 7: Wring Out Excess Water

Gently squeeze or wring out the Snuffle Ball to remove excess water. Be careful not to pull or twist too hard as this could damage the toy

EXTRA CREDIT: Throw the Snuffle Ball in the Washing Machine

As you might have figured out (or soon will!), we are a little bit extra around here. The dogs are over the top with their slobber anytime food is involved, and we like things to be pretty clean. If you're like us and find the Snuffle Ball still has a wet/stale food smell to it after you rinse out the excess water, throw it in the washing machine.

You might be wondering why we didn't just run the toy through the washing machine to begin with, right? Well, when we initially tried this, we found that the toy looked clean, but it didn't pass our sniff test. To get the food smell out of the toy, we found that pre-rinsing the toy before placing it in the washing machine produced the best cleaning results.

The bonus to throwing the toy in the washing machine is that the spin cycle jump starts the drying process!

Step 8: Drying

There are 2 options for drying your Snuffle Ball.

Option 1: Lay the Snuffle Ball on a clean towel in a well-ventilated area and allow it to air dry completely. Avoid drying in direct sunlight, as this could cause the fabric to fade.

Option 2: Toss it into your drying machine. Depending on the Snuffle Ball's construction and the drying settings you use, a session in the machine will allow the toy to get a head start on drying.

Regardless of which option you pick, it's essential to ensure the ball is thoroughly dry before giving it back to your dog, as damp fabric can harbor bacteria.

Bonus Tips:

  • It's a good practice to check the Snuffle Ball for any signs of wear or damage while cleaning. If you notice any loose threads or torn fabric, repair or replace the toy to ensure your dog's safety.

  • If you're unsure about the type of detergent or soap to use, consider buying a pet-specific cleaning product.

  • Regularly check and clean the Snuffle Ball, especially if your dog uses it often. This will help ensure it remains safe and hygienic for your pet.

Conclusion

Your dog's Snuffle Ball is more than just a toy; it's a tool for mental stimulation, exercise, and reward. By ensuring it's clean, you not only protect your pet's health but also ensure the longevity of the toy. So, the next time your Snuffle Ball looks a bit grimy, you know exactly what to do!
